After several frustrating hours, I had internet explorer working with the web site for videos. It was supposed to show on the main page, an icon, and the video on the page when you went to that specific page. All good!

Yesterday, I updated the computer (from windows update) and never paid attention to what was being updated. There was an update to internet explorer, but hey - maybe it will fix the problems I had.

Anyway, it screwed things up again. Menus are wrong, videos don't work (don't even display half the time) the icon is gone, parts of the page disappear sporadically.

Now it could be my personal computer. Or it could be the way I have stuff set up on the web site.

In any event, it's extremely frustrating.

Since I made the new random code for the web site, you should never end up at the factory4 web site. One glitch fixed.

I ain't a code genius, but I wanted a function on the factory4 web site that really generated a random blog post.

There were a couple of things I found, one took you to the random blog's home page, where you selected a posting yourself, and the other one almost worked, but took you to the latest post on a random blog. So I put one or the other on the web site for testing. They worked, but not quite.

I wanted more random. A complete "take a chance" button to click.

Took me a little while to figure out how to combine parts of each, remove the parts I didn't need, and understand what the hell the message meant when it didn't work the first two times.

But I think I got it.

Click on the random blog icon on the factory 4 website (some dice for right now) to see it work. Or go directly to http://factory4.org/?random.

since right now, there's only a couple of blogs, chances are you'll land on the same page. That is, you will be at the factory4 main page. I guess we need more members to make the random thing interesting!

If you click on the dice, they take you to the main page of a random blog.

I couldn't think of anything else to suggest "random" or "take a chance" so I found some dice on the internet and modified it.

... because I can't figure out how to force Internet Explorer to work properly on the factory4 web site.

Here's the problem:

Images are supposed to be resized ONLY if they are bigger than one of the columns.

Firefox does it right, so does the other ones I've tries like Mac's default browser, Safari, and a couple of others I tried in Linux.

Internet Explorer 8 screws up. It always resizes, and only the width. So pictures are tall and skinny.

If I force the web page to be displayed in internet explorer as if it were running internet explorer 7, the pictures are displayed properly, but the rest of the web site goes wonky. The menu is all wrong, alignment is mixed up, etc. Columns can even disappear or get thrown to the bottom.

SO I probably have something wrong in the css for the display, but after an hour or two on google, it seems to be a common annoyance.

So, I'm not sure what to do
